Splitboarding Skills Course.

Split boarding enables snowboarders to access untracked backcountry mountain terrain. 

From the ski field backcountry to the steep slopes and glacial neves of New Zealand's southern alps there are some incredible adventures for those who have a sense of adventure and are willing to climb uphill with their splitboard.

The Splitboarding Skills Course will teach you the skills to start backcountry travel and riding.

SKI TOURING & SPLIT BOARDING SKILLS

• Proper use and care of spilt boarding equipment
• Uphill travel technique for split boarders
• Uphill and downhill transitions with a splitboard

AVALANCHE SKILLS

• Rescue – Avalanche Transceivers, probing, shovelling technique
• Introduction to understanding the NZ avalanche advisory
• Safe travel technique in avalanche terrain

MEETING POINT & TIME

Evening talk - Friday night: Meet at 7.00pm at Snowboard Workshop for a 1.5 hour intro to split boarding equipment, avalanche equipment, and the NZ avalanche advisory

Mountain day - Saturday: Meet at Remarkables ski area at 8.00am. Full day in Remarkables backcountry just outside the ski field boundary.  Backcountry touring equipment is required for this day. Split board hire is available from Snowboard workshop The field day will finish at 4.00pm. We recommend leaving Queenstown no later than 7.00am to ensure getting a car park on the ski field.
